Gears of War: Reloaded Officially Announced — Coming to PS5 for the First Time

Microsoft has finally made it official Gears of War: Reloaded is real, and it’s not just coming to Xbox this time. For the first time the remastered version of the original Gears of War will also be released on PlayStation 5, marking the first time the franchise steps outside the Xbox ecosystem.

This updated version has been rebuilt from using Unreal Engine 5, that makes it much smoother, more cinematic experience. Visuals are upgraded to 4K, frame rates have been bumped to 120 FPS, and loading times between campaign chapters have been completely removed. All the original DLCs and multiplayer content are included in this package, making it the most complete Gears experience to date.

Cross-platform play and cross-progression supported

players can enjoy the game with friends no matter what system they’re on and carry their progress across all platforms. And in a nice gesture to loyal fans, anyone who owns Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get Reloaded at no additional cost.

Developed by The Coalition in collaboration with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, Reloaded signals a shift in Xbox’s approach to exclusivity. With other Xbox titles like Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves already jumping to PlayStation, this move further shows Microsoft’s evolving strategy: it’s less about the console war and more about expanding access to its biggest franchises.

The announcement also helps fill the gap while fans wait for Gears of War: E-Day, the upcoming prequel exploring the origins of Marcus Fenix and the start of the Locust War. Until then, Reloaded will give both longtime players and newcomers a fresh reason to dive into the gritty, chainsaw-filled chaos of Sera.

Gears of War: Reloaded officially releases on August 26, 2025.
