A brand-new trailer for 28 Years Later has just dropped, and it’s mind-blowing. The movie picks up nearly three decades after the outbreak that devastated Britain, and it looks like the world hasn’t gotten much better since then. You can watch the trailer below.
The film is a sequel to the iconic 28 Days Later film series, following 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), and this time, the story dives into how survivors are still trying to rebuild and survive in a world scarred by the deadly Rage virus. We’re introduced to a father and his son, who leave the safety of their island to head back to the mainland, hoping to find help but instead coming face-to-face with terrifying new threats.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and young newcomer Alfie Williams take on the lead roles, with Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, and Erin Kellyman. Finally, Fiennes plays a key character named Dr. Kelson, who may hold secrets tied to the virus and how it formed.
Director Danny Boyle, who directed the original film, has taken a creative approach by using small cameras, including action cams and even iPhones, to give the movie a raw, intense feel. It’s meant to bring viewers closer to the action and make the world feel even more real.
While original star Cillian Murphy isn’t in this movie, he’s working behind the scenes as an executive producer and has said he might return in future chapters. That’s right—this isn’t just one movie. 28 Years Later is planned as the first part of a new trilogy; following this, there is 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and an untitled movie in the works.
28 Years Later hits theaters on June 20, 2025.
