Nintendo is finally bringing one of its most legendary video game series to the big screen. After years of rumors and speculation, it’s now official—The Legend of Zelda live-action movie is set to hit theaters on March 26, 2027.

Unlike The Super Mario Bros. which was an animated movie , The Legend of Zelda is taking a different approach. This will be a full live-action film, aiming for a grand, epic fantasy feel. Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Zelda, personally announced the project, confirming that Wes Ball, the who directed Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will be in charge.
Nintendo is teaming up with Sony Pictures to make this happen, with Nintendo putting up most of the funding. That means they have control over how the story unfolds, which is reassuring. If there’s one thing fans don’t want, it’s a watered-down version of Zelda that misses the heart of what makes the games special.
Casting Speculation
As of now, there’s no word on who will play Link, Zelda, or Ganondorf, but there are some fan theories spreading. Nintendo is keeping casting details a secret for now, which only adds to the excitement. One thing is clear: they are not rushing the project, and since there are 2 years to release the project, they may plan to announce it one by one.
Nintendo’s decision to go forward with the project as live-action film comes after the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which raked in over $1.3B worldwide.
