The production of Spider-Man 4, starring Tom Holland, will start later this year, and we just can’t wait to see what’s in store for the fourth installment. What makes it even more exciting is that Sadie Sink, who plays Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is set to join the movie.
But Who Is She Playing ?
Since the news broke on the internet, there has been a lot of speculation about who she might be playing. Some say she could be portraying Mary Jane Watson, but with Zendaya already playing MJ—Michelle Jones-Watson—that seems unlikely.
There are two other possible characters she could take on. One is Black Cat, and the other is a much more surprising choice. Considering her past roles and her signature red hair, it’s unlikely she would play Black Cat. The surprising character in question? Jean Grey from the X-Men universe.
However, according to reliable insider @MyTimeToShineHello on Twitter, that’s not the case. It seems she might not be playing Jean Grey after all, though Marvel and Sony have yet to officially comment on the speculation.
The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, with Amy Pascal and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige producing.
Meanwhile, Tom Holland is currently filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, with plans to begin shooting Spider-Man 4 once production on Nolan’s film wraps.
For Sink, this role comes as she bids farewell to the character that helped launch her career. The final season of Stranger Things recently wrapped filming and is set to be one of 2025’s most highly anticipated releases, premiering later this year.
What is the plot of Spider-Man 4?
The official plot synopsis for Spider-Man 4 hasn’t been released yet, but since it follows Avengers: Doomsday, there’s a strong chance it could take place in Battleworld. This suggests it might be another multiverse-heavy film, similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Adding to the speculation, Tom Holland recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and seemingly confirmed that both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield will be returning for the movie.
Spider-Man 4 swings in to the theaters on 31 July 2026.
