Marvel just released Thunderbolts, and I saw it today. Let’s talk about both the pros and cons of the movie. Marvel definitely attempted something different, starting right from the beginning with a title card that wasn’t its usual colorful theme. The movie is about a group of imperfect villains joining forces to defeat a threat.

The story revolves around a group of imperfect villains trying to do the right thing—or at least something close to it. While it’s refreshing to see Marvel take a different approach, the execution doesn’t always land. The film has its highs moments that shine, but overall, it struggles to keep the audience fully engaged.
One of the biggest surprises was the appearance of Bob Reynolds, also known as the Sentry. His presence brings a fresh change to marvel because he’s similar to superman , and it’s exciting to see Marvel introduce such a powerful and complex character into the mix. Red Guardian’s humor also hits the mark more often than not, adding some much-needed levity to the darker tone.

Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, is in the film, but surprisingly, he doesn’t steal the show as many expected. And speaking of unexpected standouts—can we all agree that John Walker, the new Captain America, deserves an apology? Wyatt Russell delivers a genuinely solid performance that gives his character more depth and redemption than we’ve seen before.
But the true heart of the movie? Yelena Belova. She is without a doubt the backbone of Thunderbolts. Fierce, emotional, and fearless—Florence Pugh absolutely owns every scene she’s in. She carries the story with raw emotion and strength, grounding the entire film in a way no one else does.
Despite all of this, Thunderbolts ends up being another middling Marvel entry. It’s not terrible by any means—it tries new things, and some of them work—but it just doesn’t hit the emotional or narrative highs we saw in Marvel’s golden era around 2019.
In the end, Thunderbolts is a new attempt and compared to the recent MCU films its far better, but it doesn’t quite land where it aims. It’s worth a watch, especially for fans of these characters, but it won’t be remembered as one of Marvel’s best.
