Wakanda’s Secrets Come Alive in New Marvel Series

Marvel Studios has officially pulled back the curtain on Eyes of Wakanda, an ambitious 4-part animated anthology series that digs deep into the hidden history of the iconic African nation.

The series, created by storyboard artist-turned-showrunner Todd Harris, will follow generations of Wakandan warriors tasked with retrieving powerful vibranium artifacts scattered across the globe. These warriors operate in secret, acting as shadow agents on behalf of Wakanda long before the world ever knew the name Black Panther.

I really liked the idea of everyone’s view of history,” says Harris in an exclusive interview with Entertainment Weekly. “The story starts off during the end of the Western Bronze Age, and that spark sets off this giant spy-espionage story that reverberates through time.”

That “spy-espionage” setup is more James Bond than traditional superhero fare—except here, the gadgets are made of vibranium, and sometimes the agent is a Jane Bond rather than a James. This storytelling shift allows Eyes of Wakanda to explore different corners of the Marvel universe while staying grounded in the rich cultural and spiritual roots of Wakanda itself.

Voice Cast and Characters
The voice cast is stacked with talent. Cress Williams lends his voice to a character known as “The Lion,” while model and actress Winnie Harlow voices “Noni.” The roster also includes Patricia Belcher, Lynn Whitfield, Larry Herron, Adam Gold, Jacques Colimon, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Jona Xiao, Gary Anthony Williams, and Zeke Alton.

A standout mention goes to Anika Noni Rose, the voice behind Disney’s Princess and the Frog, who plays what Harris calls a “crucial role” in the series. “She came in there like an archangel and just blew the scene away,” he said, hinting that her character may become a fan-favorite.

Also joining the voice cast is House of the Dragon actor Steve Toussaint, who plays a seasoned Wakandan agent torn between duty and principle. “He’s an authoritative character with so much heart and soul,” Harris shared. “He believes in his job, but sometimes principles outweigh the mission.”

What is The Plot of Eyes Of Wakanda
While Harris is keeping many story elements tightly under wraps, he confirms that the series will focus on the Hatut Zeraze, known in Wakandan as the “Dogs of War.” These elite operatives function like a covert CIA unit, tracking down lost vibranium artifacts before they fall into the wrong hands.

“When an inciting incident releases some of these things into the wild, they’ve got to—quietly—make sure that these things don’t turn into a global threat,” Harris explains. “We all saw what happened when just one vibranium disc ended up with a Super Soldier—it changed history.”

With its focus on history, espionage, and untold heroes, Eyes of Wakanda promises to offer something fresh for Marvel fans—while also deepening the lore of a nation that’s always valued secrecy, honor, and power.

Eyes of Wakanda is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.
