Filming for Avengers Doomsday is officially underway, and the X-Men will be in their classic comic-book costumes for the first time. After years of seeing the X-Men inleather costumes, fans are about to get what they’ve been hoping for those signature yellow, blue, and black suits straight from the pages of Marvel comics.

The cast includes returning stars such as Ian McKellen as Magneto, Patrick Stewart as Professor X, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, and Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler. Additionally, Channing Tatum will reprise his role as Gambit from Deadpool & Wolverine.

They are currently filming in the X-Mansion, the home and headquarters of the X-Men. This setting isn’t just a nostalgic nod to the past it represents a new chapter for the X-Men in the MCU. It’s a space that holds so much history for these mutants, and having this location featured in the film feels like the perfect fit as these characters step into the larger Marvel universe.
What is the Plot of Avengers: Doomsday?
Avengers: Doomsday revolves around Doctor Doom’s desperate attempt to stop a multiversal collapse. However, his solution might come at a terrifying cost he’s willing to destroy entire universes to save his own. The storyline seems to have similarities to the abandoned concept of Avengers: Kang Dynasty, where surviving heroes from different worlds are forced to choose between saving themselves or sacrificing others.
With the Russo brothers returning, fans can expect something similar to what they delivered in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. However, their last film, The Electric State, was not well received by both the audience and critics. Because of this, Kevin Feige will be personally involved in the filming of both Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on May 2, 2026.
