Alien: Romulus Sequel Set to Film This Fall

The Alien franchise is not over yet. The director of the movie Fede Álvarez has officially confirmed that a sequel to Alien: Romulus is in the works and will begin filming this fall. During a recent interview on the Marea Nocturna podcast, he shared that production is scheduled to kick off in October, with pre-production already underway.

Alien: Romulus, which was released in 2024, was highly praised for its horror roots. Set between Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), the film followed a group of young colonists trapped on a derelict space station and their terrifying encounter with the Xenomorphs. Since the movie was successful, earning around $350 M worldwide on an $80M budget, it paved the way for the next chapter in the saga.

While specific plot details are still under wraps, Álvarez has hinted that the sequel will explore fresh territory. He previously stated his desire to bring new ideas and experiences to the Alien universe while still maintaining the tone and terror that fans expect.

The movie features an exceptional cast, including Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn, and Aileen Wu, who helped bring fresh energy to the iconic franchise.

Although there have been whispers of a potential crossover with the Predator franchise, Álvarez has not confirmed any such plans. He has, however, addressed other rumors, including one that Sigourney Weaver would return as a de-aged Ripley, firmly denying those claims.

The upcoming sequel is expected to build on the legacy of Romulus while carving out its own space in the franchise’s timeline. With filming set to begin in October 2025, fans can look forward to more updates soon as Álvarez and his team prepare to dive back into the terrifying world of Xenomorphs.
