Marvel Studios is moving closer to bringing the X-Men fully into the MCU, and director Jake Schreier may be the one to lead the charge. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schreier is in early talks with Marvel to direct the highly anticipated X-Men reboot, which will officially reintroduce the iconic mutant team to a new generation of fans.
Schreier, who most recently directed Marvel’s upcoming film Thunderbolts* which is now The New Avengers, has been gaining attention for his strong visual style and ability to balance ensemble casts skills that would be crucial in tackling a franchise as large and beloved as X-Men.

The screenplay is being written by Michael Lesslie, whose recent work includes The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Assassin’s Creed. Lesslie’s ability to adapt large-scale stories with complex characters is seen as a strong match for the depth and legacy of the X-Men universe. t Kevin Feige will produce, continuing his long-standing tradition of overseeing major expansions within the MCU.
The new X-Men project will marks a major milestone for Marvel, as it will be the first time the mutants are featured in a standalone MCU film since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox. Although characters like Professor X and Deadpool have started appearing through multiverse-related stories, fans are been eagerly awaiting a proper reboot that sets the X-Men within the MCU’s main timeline.
