Ne Zha 2 has become the world’s fifth highest-grossing film, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Chinese animation sequel continues to dominate in its seventh week of release, remaining #1 in China and creating waves overseas.

The phenomenal success of Ne Zha 2 continues even after a poor weekend at the worldwide box office. According to trade expert Luiz Fernando, the film grossed $1.4 million in pre-sales after 143,000 showings on its seventh Sunday. There were 4,000 more showings than the day before.
With an astonishing $2.08 billion in global box office receipts to far, including $2.054 billion from China, Ne Zha 2 has surpassed Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.071 billion) to reach the top spot on the all-time global chart. Because of its enormous success, the film will now be shown in European cinemas, broadening its appeal even further.

The film continues the story of Ne Zha and Aobing, whose souls were saved after a great catastrophe but whose bodies are on the verge of destruction. To restore them, Taiyi Zhenren seeks to use a seven-colored lotus, setting up a visually stunning and emotionally charged adventure.
