As the release date of Avengers: Doomsday approaches, we have a concerning update from Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes. He revealed that he hasn’t heard anything about the filming of Avengers: Secret Wars.
While speaking to IndieWire, he said, “I know there’s this other film that’s supposed to be shot next year, but I haven’t heard anything about it. There are a lot of people waiting to see when it’s going to happen. I don’t know if it’s already planned in the program.“
Does this mean Bucky won’t be returning for another MCU movie after Avengers: Doomsday? Well, we can’t be sure about that just yet. Actors associated with the MCU often keep details about their upcoming projects under wraps, so Sebastian Stan’s comments don’t necessarily mean Bucky won’t return.
Previously, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky appeared in Thunderbolts, which was later rebranded as The New Avengers. In the movie, Bucky formed his own team alongside Yelena Belova (Black Widow), John Walker (U.S. Agent), Alexei Shostakov (Red Guardian), Ava Starr (Ghost), Antonia Dreykov (Taskmaster), and Bob (Sentry).
When Avengers: Doomsday is released, we will see Bucky return to the MCU. However, as far as the future is concerned, we don’t know which project he could appear in after Avengers: Doomsday. For now, fans will have to wait for more information about his future in the franchise.
