Marvel may finally be bringing Nova to the big screen soon. After the Nova series got cancelled in 2025, Marvel is reviving the project. According to Deadline, Michael Waldron is writing the film and could also direct it.
Nova is a cosmic superhero, and he’s a member of the intergalactic police force known as the Nova Corps. Different characters have held the mantle, but the most famous Nova is Richard Rider, a teenager from New York who inherited the powers and uniform of a dying Nova Centurion. He was first introduced in 1976. His powers are derived from the “Nova Force,” a cosmic energy source that grants him superhuman strength, flight, durability, and the ability to fire energy blasts. He’s known as “The Human Rocket.”

The Nova Corps has already made an appearance in the MCU. They’re in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and mentioned in Vol. 2, but in the movies, they’re portrayed as conventional law enforcement and peacekeepers.

Michael Waldron’s previous work includes writing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and creating and showrunning Loki, giving him extensive experience with large-scale MCU storytelling and a close working relationship with Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios. Beyond Marvel, he’s also the creator and executive producer of Heels, as well as the creator of Chad Powers.
