The next Jurassic World movie is still in development at Universal, but Gareth Edwards has reportedly departed the sequel.
According to Maxblizz, Edwards will not return as the director of the Jurassic World Rebirth sequel due to “creative differences” with Universal. Despite his departure, Jurassic World Rebirth was a major box office success, grossing $869 million worldwide.
The film starred Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey, proving there is still strong audience interest in the Jurassic World franchise. Universal is now expected to begin its search for a new director to helm the sequel.
The studio has begun searching for a new director to lead the sequel. Universal thanked Edwards in a Thursday statement, saying, “We had an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”
The Jurassic franchise has continued to evolve with different directors and casts over the years. Across seven films, five different creative teams have led the series, while Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall have remained its guiding forces.
The film will be produced by Edwards, Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall, and Patrick Crowley.
