Spider-Man 5 Is Not Expected to Move Forward Anytime Soon

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become one of the most successful movies in comic book history, and again, it is expected to cross $150M on its second weekend. As of now, it has collected $1.259 billion worldwide.

But there is a huge disappointment for the Spidey fans who are waiting for the next installment soon. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Destin Daniel Cretton, is focused on the live-action Naruto movie, which will begin filming in 2027.

It’s obvious that we won’t get Spider-Man 5 anytime soon, but now it seems it’s going to be very late, maybe around 2030, because if Destin begins Naruto next year, it will only be released in 2028 or 2029. Then again, they have to write the script and discuss the film, so Spider-Man 5 will be late.

Destin is very excited for the live-action Naruto movie. While talking to Inverse, he shared that he’s a huge fan of both the series and its creator, Masashi Kishimoto, and that the team is staying true to Kishimoto’s original vision. He explained that the biggest risk would be trying to cram too much into a single movie, and that he’s genuinely excited about what they’re building.

The track record of Hollywood adapting Japanese properties has not been very good, movies like Dragon Ball Evolution and Ghost in the Shell. But Destin is someone who understands the character very well, with his experience and his Asian roots, and we hope he brings justice to the live-action Naruto movie.
