DC Comics’ Absolute Batman is one of the biggest-selling comics in the modern day of comics, and when the animated series was announced just a couple of days ago, fans couldn’t contain their excitement about it — because it’s not the regular Batman story we usually see in the movies or TV shows.
But now we’ve got some new details about the comics. According to AIPTcomics, the writer of Absolute Batman, Scott Snyder, said the ABSOLUTE BATMAN animated series will expand the comic without losing its core.
“We want it to be as though the comic is just almost a bigger, better, more robust version of the comic on the screen.”
He also talked about how far along the series is. So far, in the writing process, they’re still in the early stages of the project.
“The first steps are just writing a series format, kind of a Bible for the whole series, and showing how many episodes we think it is and the structure of it,” Snyder explained.
He also talked about the support he’s getting from Warner Bros. Animation, specifically crediting Peter Girardi. He also praised DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran for making sure he and Dragotta remain creatively involved throughout development.
What is Absolute Batman About?
In this comic it re-imagines Bruce Wayne as a blue-collar civil engineer who grew up in Crime Alley. Without inherited wealth or a mansion, Bruce relies on grit, self-built gear, and sheer physical power to fight corruption in a gritty Gotham.
It became the #1 best-selling comic in the direct market for 2024, selling just under 400,000 copies across multiple printings.
When will the Absolute Batman animated series release?
It still doesn’t have a release date yet, as it’s still in early development. Most likely, it will release around 2028.
