Spider-Man: Brand New Day was released two months ago in theaters, and now it looks like Sony is gearing up for a possible re-release, potentially to push the movie towards the $3 billion mark at the box office.
So far, the movie has grossed around $2.49 billion worldwide, already making it the most successful solo superhero movie of all time.
The re-release could include deleted scenes and extended fight sequences that didn’t make it into the original theatrical version. This could include more from Spider-Man’s fight with his montage villains like Boomerang and Tombstone, and we could even get an extended version of his fight with Hulk, because that fight was pretty short in the movie.
Another deleted scene could feature Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple. Dawson revealed at GalaxyCon that she filmed a scene where she reprised her role as Claire Temple, but the scene ended up on the cutting room floor before the movie’s theatrical release.
As for when this re-release is actually happening, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
But at this point, movies are starting to feel like games. Just like games release DLC with additional content, movies are now getting re-releases with additional footage. We just saw something similar happen with Avengers: Endgame, which gave fans additional content with a direct connection to Avengers: Doomsday.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day was directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. The movie stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo.
In the movie, Peter Parker is now on his own and completely dedicated to protecting New York City as Spider-Man. But his personal struggles and constant overworking cause his powers to evolve while he faces a new telepathic threat.
